Best Pilates Studio in Bali: What to Look For
Bali has more Pilates studios today than at any point in its history. For visitors searching "pilates near me" on arrival, and for residents deciding where to spend the next year of their practice, choosing the right Pilates studio in Bali is harder than it should be. Not every studio calling itself Pilates is teaching the same thing.
Is every reformer class actually Pilates?
The reformer has become the most recognisable piece of Pilates equipment, and increasingly it's used for something else entirely: interval-style fitness classes, set to music, with little attention to alignment, breath, or sequencing. That format has its place. It is not the classical method, and it won't deliver the same results if what you're after is postural correction, injury rehabilitation, or genuine skill progression.
Before you book, it's worth knowing which one you're walking into.
Who is actually teaching your Pilates class?
A studio's size or marketing budget says nothing about the quality of instruction inside it. What matters is the person leading the room: how many hours of training they completed, which certification body issued it, and whether they studied the full classical system or a shortened, modernised version of it.
A 300-hour Classical certification and a weekend reformer course both result in someone teaching a class called "Pilates." Only one of them prepares a teacher to assess an individual body and adjust a sequence in real time.
What should you look for in a Pilates studio in Bali?
A few questions are worth asking any studio, Bali or otherwise:
Are class sizes small enough for a teacher to actually see and correct your form?
Will a teacher put hands on you when your alignment is off, or just call out counts?
Are teacher credentials published somewhere you can check them?
Is there an option to start with a private session or assessment before joining a group class, especially if you're new to Pilates or carrying an injury?
None of these are hard to find out. Studios confident in their training are usually happy to tell you about it.
Bali Pilates Plus: Classical Pilates in Batu Belig, Seminyak
Bali Pilates Plus is a Classical Pilates studio in Batu Belig, Seminyak, offering group Reformer, Mat, and Private sessions for residents and visitors alike. We've been at our Batu Belig studio since 2025, after five years in Berawa from 2020.
Every teacher on our floor holds a Comprehensive Certification — not a single-apparatus shortcut, but training across the full classical system. If you're new to Pilates altogether, our Beginner Foundation class runs every Monday and Wednesday, built specifically to teach the fundamentals before you move into a mixed-level group.
Vianca Rechtman, our founder, was certified as a Classical Pilates teacher in 2015. She holds an 800-hour Classical Pilates certification and is a Master Teacher Trainer for EYT Pilates, certified in New York in 2022. She still teaches — and trains every EYT student directly, not through junior staff.
I'm not interested in running a fitness trend. I'm interested in teaching people to move well, for the long term, in bodies that actually change over a lifetime.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Pilates experience before joining a group Reformer class?
No. Group classes are taught with modifications for different levels, though if you're brand new or working around an injury, we'd recommend starting with a private session first.
I've never done Pilates before — where should I start?
Our Beginner Foundation class, held every Monday and Wednesday, is built for exactly this. It covers the fundamentals of classical technique before you move into general group classes.
What's the difference between Mat and Reformer?
Mat Pilates uses body weight and small props on the floor; Reformer uses a spring-loaded machine that adds resistance and support. Both teach the same classical principles — many students do both.
Can visitors book single classes, or only packages?
Both are available. Visitors passing through Bali are welcome to drop in.
